In just about a year, Dustland Runner has become one of Web3’s most thrilling games. Run, collect Gear and craft to survive!
Dustland Runner has come a long way. At the beginning of last year when OliveX launched the global-first Move-and-Own (MnO) audio adventure game, along with the DOSE token that would underpin the game economy, we knew we had a winner on our hands. We were always about the game, story and lore first.
We won’t rub it in, but let’s just say it’s great to be proved right. We had tremendous, invaluable partners to get us here, and Polygon is one of the best.
The Polygon Factor
In November, Dustland Runner hit a major milestone when the crafting system went live (more on that in a bit). Crafting is a feature our total 20,000 MAUs were really looking forward to and it’s also one of the reasons Dustland Runner is consistently among the top rated MnO games on the Polygon chain — which DOSE was thrilled to join in November too.
Even better, we’ve been in the top 10 for several weeks running, a demo of just how solid Dustland’s foundations are.
As the leading blockchain development platform, Polygon is crucial to any Web3 app with ambitions to scaling up and expanding, which OliveX has plenty of. We’re excited to be both on the Polygon chain and to have Polygon as an investor-partner. Polygon recognised OliveX’s vision early in our development, and has been one of our strongest supporters ever since.
This is really just the beginning for Dustland!
Why Dustland Works
Simple, really. Dustland Runner was purpose-built to incentivise fitness and get people moving by being fun, engaging, rewarding and connective, and we’ve done that by being laser focused on the game itself and the story it’s built on, all orchestrated by a team of highly experienced talent and award-winning writer, led by Marc McGinley as Game Director (ex-Ubisoft).
As a founding pillar of the still-growing OliveX Fitness Metaverse and underpinned by the DOSE token, Dustland Runner has always been a game first. We’re dedicated to creating a game for players, with input from players, and often tested by players. We’ve also been careful to build a sustainable game economy for long-term growth, but recognise that’s meaningless without a fun game loop.
A solid crafting system is a crucial part of Dustland gameplay, a system that allows players to craft Gear items. Having the right Gear, and enough of it, unlocks rewards that give players a chance to upgrade their in-game character, existing Gear, and access to bonus missions and Dustland story secrets — as a start. The first Gear was a Boot that can be held or converted into an NFT, options that add utility to in-game rewards — another key to Dustland.
A Great Community
Right now in Dustland Runner, players — or Dustcaps as they’re better known — are running missions to help the scattered survivors of a post-apocalyptic wasteland collect the tools they need to survive and save what’s left of the world (go big or go home, right?). By completing missions — which can be regular, special Operation Ape missions, or limited side quests — Dustcaps collect and craft Gear items they need to help them on their journey and rack up DOSE, and XP for our Dustland leaderboard on Crew3.
If you’re a big fan of adventure and want even more story, grab an Operation Ape Pass on OpenSea for all of the above!
One of the things that really separates Dustland from the herd is the vibrant community that’s grown up around the game — and in some ways helped shape it. We’re proud that over 20,000 Discord users regularly engage with us and with each other in the Dustland community, and we love how they get together to swap theories, game strategies, or just hang out. It is a defining feature of Dustland Runner and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
